MPs, candidates for the European elections, priests and members of the public on Sunday took part in the 44th Christodoula march in all towns to raise money and awareness for the battle against cancer.

“Caring for cancer patients should be provided by the state itself,” said House President Demetris Syllouris, which has the primary responsibility for the health and well-being of its citizens. He was speaking at the start of the event in Larnaca.

“The presence of all of us here today highlights and strengthens fundamental principles and values, such as solidarity and altruism while mirroring the social cohesion of the citizens of our country,” he added.

In Dherynia the march was led by Interior Minister Constantinos Petrides, who said taking part in it was the duty of every conscientious person.

“Today we are called upon to unite to support the 44th Christodoulas march,” he said.

He also called on people to support organisers, the Anticancer Society “so the society can continue its multifaceted and very important work in the fight against cancer.”
