The implementation of divided Cyprus’ energy plans and more specifically the scheduled drilling in plot 11 go ahead as scheduled, government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said on Monday.

He was talking to journalists after a National Council meeting chaired by President Nicos Anastasiades and focusing on the next steps to be taken now that reunification negotiations have ended inconclusively in Crans-Montana, Switzerland.

Asked whether French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly who is set to visit Cyprus later on Monday plans to also go to plot 11 where French energy giant Total is carrying out the drilling since July 14, he said no.

“The French Minister’s schedule does not include such an arrangement,” Christodoulides added.

Parly, whose visit to Cyprus takes place in the context of a regional visit, will meet with Defence Minister Christophoros Fokaides in coastal Larnaca at 05:30pm.

The two ministers are expected to discuss matters pertaining to bilateral and regional cooperation as well as European Defence Policy matters, according to an official announcement.

On Tuesday, a further meeting of the National Council will be held which will be also attended by Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.
